Iowa State University Water Quality Modeling招收博士生

Ph.D. Graduate Assistantships
in Water Quality Modeling

Ph.D. graduate student assistantships in WaterQuality Modeling are available in the Departmentof Ecology, Evolution, and OrganismalBiology at Iowa State University (https://www.clu-lab.com/). We invite highly motivated graduatestudents with interests in investigating water pollution issues in a coupled human and natural system. This position will be supported by an NSF-fundedresearch project entitled “CAREER: Understanding thedynamics and predictabilityof land-to-aquatic nitrogen loading under climate extremesby combining deep learning withprocess-based
modeling
.” The successfulcandidates will apply process-based modeling, deep learning, big datasynthesis, and data-model integrationto study water quantity/quality andother hydro- ecological questions. This position aims to prepare trainees fora diverse range of career paths as they gain expertise in Hydrological, Ecological, and Environmental Sciences.
We will provide candidates withplenty of opportunities to work witha group of scientists with different expertise, including hydro-ecological modeling,
water quality monitoring, deeplearning, and agricultural economics.

We expect a flexible enrollment fornew graduate students, from
as earlyas Spring 2021 to Fall 2021. The applicants should possess a degree in hydrology, biogeochemistry, ecology, geography, earth system
science, remote sensing, or related fields.Quantitative skills and experience interrestrial
ecosystem/landsurface modeling, remote sensing, and big data analysis are preferable.Students can apply for this positionthrough the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Graduate Program
(https://eeb.iastate.edu/)or the Environmental Science GraduateProgram
(https://enscigrad.iastate.edu/)or the Bioinformatics& Computational Biology Graduate Program (
https://www.bcb.iastate.edu/) at Iowa State University(General application for Fall semester enrollment is due January 15, 2021). Please contact Dr. Chaoqun Lu
(clu@iastate.edu) in advance for more details.

The students will be funded throughthe NSF project for two years at least, supplementedwith additional fellowship and TA opportunities, which include tuitioncoverage, benefit, and a stipend of $2,100 per month. The required application documents include a cover letter (outlining their qualifications andresearch interest),
a resume, transcripts, TOFEL, GRE scores (waivedby ENVSCI program
this year), andthree reference
letters.
